The Avengers brings together several heroes from the Marvel universe: The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and the Black Widow. Maybe it's because I saw the movie in New York where it was shown a week after everyone else around the world has seen it and given their opinion of the movie, thus making me expect so much more, but I found the movie a bit lacking. Lacking in what, you ask? I can't really say. Perhaps it lacks the heart that previous super hero movies such as the first Spider-Man or the latest Dark Knight movie were profoundly rich with. Perhaps because there was little time for character development, unless the movie is assuming that we've seen previous movies dedicated to each character - which would be a very wrong assumption to make - that I am unable to care for some characters.
But these are small quibbles, which one can simply ignore while having fun watching this movie. This is how summer movies should be - fun, witty and intense. As you might have heard already, Hulk stands out in this movie. Given all the amazing powers on screen, you'd think that the Hulk was the weakest link. As it turns out, he gets the best ass-kicking scene in the movie.
As Loki tries to invade earth (of course), Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury gather's each hero to heed the call of duty. And for those complaining about Nick Fury becoming black in this movie, please get a grip and get a life. If you don't like, then don't watch this movie. Obviously, the rest of the world feels differently, because this movie, independent of the comics that occupy your time, is awesome in more ways than one.
